The inactivity of this forum.
Thu Apr 02, 2015 11:06 pm by Burkman
It's depressing to see how inactive it has been recently. I mean, everybody is pretty much primarily posting in the never ending thread now and there's not enough people here to make this place really booming. We need to find some way to bring more people here before this place just fades into nothingness...

I know for a fact that a lot of boards out there are thriving because of how many people are there. We just need to get back into the game and pull people here. However, where we obtain these people might matter, because we don't to end up pulling in douches like those at Selkath.

I understand that people are busy these days, but it doesn't seem like they're rarely at their computer anymore. I know most of you are still dicking around with your computer. I don't know how we …

Happy New Year OT! We may be dying... BUT WE'RE STILL HERE! We had an... interesting year last year. Vice Admin Burkman is taking a long earned vacation and Uly is stepping into his position. Well... I'd have more to say but I've got other things to do atm... and oh yeah... to quote Callin... "GET A MIC YA BUM!"

Explain it in your own words. Even if you're claiming to be atheist.

You can 'explain' religion as a general concept, or a particular religion (yours, I'd imagine)....

I won't give out my entire views on this as they may come across as rather un-comprehensive to most people.

Suffice it to say that I respect all religions and am not at all biased towards anyone solely because of his beliefs. I however choose to believe in what I can, in fact, explain using tangible evidence. I however do not disagree that somewhere in space there might be a presumably all-powerful being residing beyond this and any other plain of reality (what many might call a 'god'). I am also of the opinion that no religion is 'wrong', or 'right' for that matter, in it's attempt of explaining it .

I view religions as, in a way of putting it, different pieces of the same whole. Much like the Force in Star Wars. Before the Dark Side (initially called Bogan) and Light Side (called Ashla) came to 'form' (as in accumulated followers), there was simply 'The Force'. To understand the world on a more spiritual basis, one detached almost entirely from reality, which is in essence to 'study the Force', one must embrace all possible views available, even if they each state they are the one true and complete.

My opinion is that once you start treating one view as 'completely right' and all others 'wrong', you will inevitably loose all focus on getting a truly complete understanding of 'The Force'/spirituality/what-have-you.

Anyways... Your turn...

Please, be respectful of other's opinions on your/their own religion. Everybody has the freedom to believe in whatever and whoever they choose.

I have to get this off my chest.

Why? Why do some people on these forums or the general internet feel the need to post threads discussing religion? And then they ask to respect the others views and don't argue. For crying out loud, people in the OT can't even respect eachothers football views without being slandered. What makes you think we can do this?

Because...

THIS:

This isn't a thread discussing religion. It's a thread for simply posting your views on religion (either as a general thing or... not). There doesn't need to be a discussion...

I'm pretty much the exact opposite. I'm a pragmatism, realist, and so on. For me there is one absolute truth and I judge based on the evidence.

I think people have ridiculous uses for it by stating their subjective observations to be realism, but if there is a better word to express that reality is independent of observation I'm not familiar with it.

I'm in the middle of the spectrum... I don't particularly believe in a specific religion... as I've seen no proof of one religion over another. At the same time I see no evidence to fully support atheism. I'm a scientist... I wont throw out either theory until I'm dead and gone (Because that's the ultimate experiment isn't it? The one you can never reveal your observations from... OMG!). I am superstitious some what... I believe in karma... I pray to something even tho I don't know if it's there or not. Why? A sound mind breeds sound thoughts... and to think that my child and wife are watched over while I'm not there is a rather reassuring thought.

I am an Atheist. And I try not to act closed-minded about it, I don't believe that deities can be proven to exist. I however often can imagine the fear people have of spiritual punishment, and I can understand if you have nothing to turn to, you turn to a deity. I also think I should rely on myself and not place faith into a faceless god. No "holy" action has ever happened to me that I can prove was the action of a higher being, so I chose to believe in nothing. I think it's best for me and it's what I want to believe. We all believe what we want to believe, at least when it comes to religion. If you're religious, fine. But I'll only respect what you believe as far as you respect what I believe. I try to practice tolerance, but it's hard, and I'm only human.

I don't understand. How is peer pressure involved? Most of the kids are Catholics at my school. I know one Methodist and one atheist. I've had my belief for awhile.

Ugh, I realize now the part could seem related to Religion. I meant you changing your mind to post Religious views, not being Christian.

I need to make sure what I say isn't... well... something like that.
