The inactivity of this forum. | Thu Apr 02, 2015 11:06 pm by Burkman | It's depressing to see how inactive it has been recently. I mean, everybody is pretty much primarily posting in the never ending thread now and there's not enough people here to make this place really booming. We need to find some way to bring more people here before this place just fades into nothingness...
I know for a fact that a lot of boards out there are thriving because of how many people are there. We just need to get back into the game and pull people here. However, where we obtain these people might matter, because we don't to end up pulling in douches like those at Selkath.
I understand that people are busy these days, but it doesn't seem like they're rarely at their computer anymore. I know most of you are still dicking around with your computer. I don't know how we …

Happy New Year! | Wed Jan 02, 2013 2:56 pm by Scott | Happy New Year OT! We may be dying... BUT WE'RE STILL HERE! We had an... interesting year last year. Vice Admin Burkman is taking a long earned vacation and Uly is stepping into his position. Well... I'd have more to say but I've got other things to do atm... and oh yeah... to quote Callin... | So, I'm one year from being a freshman in high school. Whoopee. But my science teacher is really causing a lot of problems for me and I'm coming to you guys asking for some actual real advice...
Basically, she buries us with a ton of work (classwork as well as homework). Given the fact that I'm not exactly the best at Algebra that's the class I try to put all my focus on, but lately I've been struggling keeping up with science. On top of that, I'm a bit lazy and so I've not been the best with keeping track on her assignments. So now I'm piled with make up work. My mother's a bit fed up with it and she's saying she plans on holding me back if I don't do better...
Thankfully I have all the assignments to do this weekend and bring my grade up to prove her wrong...but I'm dealing with a serious problem here. I have trouble managing everything (especially in school) and it makes things frustratingly hard to do. On average I have about 5 science assignments at school everyday (plus notes and new lessons) and 2 or so at home. Keep in mind this is all on top of the already missing work.
I'm not really sure what the main problem is, part of it is that I'm lazy (I just don't feel motivated to do anything school related to be honest), another big chunk of it is when I AM interested in doing my work there's so much of it...
Any words of wisdom? At all?

| In my area, middle school was absolutely useless. You didn't even learn anything new in middle school.
And seriously? Your mother threatening to hold you back because you're not doing better? It's... middle school... But I really don't have any great advice other than to just take it with a grain of salt and do your school work.
I didn't finish public middle school. Mostly because I got sent to a military based alternative school. I did horribly because I didn't really give a shit about anything and I STILL passed. I focused on the physical stuff. Getting PT'd and shit was fun as hell. And those basketball games I use to play. Getting chewed out, getting restrained and thrown to the ground by Drill instructors...
Good times... | |

Good times... Sounds like my rehab... But anywho... yeah... how do you manage? Well... you shut off everything that can distract you. The best why I'm able to focus on getting something done (at least class/school-wise) is to sit there with my headphones in jammin to some music. I just start with one assignment and project and work at it. Sometimes I don't sleep... but that's what it takes sometimes.

| @Burkman Yeah. I could easily pass if not for my mother's huge overreaction to the situation. I understand the importance of doing well, but this is so crazy it's not even funny. I'd be held behind while many kids who are doing MUCH worse would move on, it's absolute madness. And I'm supposed to be doing work now... I'm just going to write down random BS and turn it in. Because in all honesty if I try it'll take forever and be wrong anyway. Besides, point is I can pass if it weren't for my mom, fooling her is the trick it looks like. @Scott, thanks for the tips. I get distracted easily, so that was helpful. I have ADD so I have trouble paying attention. About a year ago I started taking medicine for it but the problem is that (according to what my friend's mom -who's also on medicine for the same thing-) I keep growing so the medicine's dose loses it's impact on me :/ So it works for a few days and then dies back down to being basically useless. I've got it upped about 3 times now but I keep growing and my mom thinks I'm trying to use it as a crutch. :/ | |

| When you get through middle school, make sure you do well in high school. That's a no-brainer. When your senior year comes around though, you'll notice a lot of other seniors stop caring about the rest of it. I was sort of like that, but I didn't want to slack the rest of that semester, because that would be bad... | |

I pulled an all nighter to finish my thesis paper. @__@ I have the attention span of a squirrel...

| Just... Buckle up and do your work... Your mom's threats are... Both irrelevant and really stupid... If you cave under the work you have now... How the fuck are you gonna get past university? If you think this is a lot... What I do right now, studying for my exams, is pick up my laptop, any textbooks and notebooks I have on the thing I'm gonna revise and simply go to the school library and spend most of the day there... No distractions like games (cause steam don't work) so I'm fully focused... Yeah, sure sometimes I do get bored after awhile, but then I just pack-up and take a breather- a walk around the area (Westminster University is pretty much in the center of London), get a coffee at the cantina (we have that in the building, it's basically a small Costa)... Do something to take your mind off the strain for a bit...
What I'm saying is- find an isolated place where you can study without any distractions and really put your mind to it... Organize your work load (which I assume is a lot) into manageable bits and you'd be surprised how fast it will all seem to go...
And seriously... Don't listen to your mom... Their job is to overreact... Pretend to listen, nod, agree, then go do whatever the fuck you were gonna do...

| @Burkman,
Yeah, I understand why high school is important. High School scares me to be honest, I think that's my main motivation.
