The inactivity of this forum.

It's depressing to see how inactive it has been recently. I mean, everybody is pretty much primarily posting in the never ending thread now and there's not enough people here to make this place really booming. We need to find some way to bring more people here before this place just fades into nothingness...
I know for a fact that a lot of boards out there are thriving because of how many people are there. We just need to get back into the game and pull people here. However, where we obtain these people might matter, because we don't to end up pulling in douches like those at Selkath.
I understand that people are busy these days, but it doesn't seem like they're rarely at their computer anymore. I know most of you are still dicking around with your computer. I don't know how we …
Happy New Year OT! We may be dying... BUT WE'RE STILL HERE! We had an... interesting year last year. Vice Admin Burkman is taking a long earned vacation and Uly is stepping into his position. Well... I'd have more to say but I've got other things to do atm... and oh yeah... to quote Callin... "GET A MIC YA BUM!"

So... a couple years ago I spoke to this guy from NASA at a geology expo in Oklahoma. (OU in Norman is a big recruiting location for NASA in the geological and environmental science fields.) While we were talking I told him about my buddy that just started working for NASA and asked him what it takes to get recognized by them. He gave me the general low down... good grades... academic achievement... post graduate work and experience.. blah blah blah. He said they were always gathering resumes and such for some upcoming large projects (the way he described them it sounded like getting to work on the 2020 mission to mars they had planned.
Anywho... yesterday I received a phone call from a gal in the UK asking about my resume and a pool of candidates for the Mars One project. Now.. since Obama's grotesque cutting of the NASA budget... we've all known that the future of space exploration would be held in the private sector. It appears that Mars will soon become a reality (and I mean that in more than one sense of the word oddly enough). Now I've heard random things about the Mars One project before... didn't really pay it much attention. But somehow I think my resume went from a random on file stash at NASA never to see the light of day... or... even the light of a store room or digital drive... to in the hands of these people. I was asked if they could add my name to a list of about 5,000 people they already have in preparations for the upcoming selections.
Now needless to say I thought this was a scam at first. That or maybe I'd lucked out and some sort of private organization wanted to train in a fresh Geology graduate. But this is actually becoming a reality. Now as impressive as 1 in 5,000 people worldwide is for being one of the first people on Mars... good news... after looking up what all the hoopla was about everyone older than 18 years of age can apply! The applications aren't out yet... but they will be soon. But it's a really interesting prospect and I encourage all of you to read about it!

Yeah... I've played waaay too much Red Faction and Dead Space to actually want to go into space any time soon... Plus, you don't really need lawyers in space, do you? Not unless you're to toss them out the airlock... I guess I could fill the role of an on-board shrink, but depression in space (or space fatigue) isn't really an interesting topic so I'll probably end up suggesting to people to just take a walk and get some fresh air...

I've always wanted to go to Mars... and I'm not particularly fond of the idea that my body is buried when I die... cremation and condensation into diamond ftw.

you could always be pressed into jelly......
though being turned into a manmade diamond and placed on the finger of future generations of your loins does sound sort of interesting.
"OH MY GOD! That is such a pretty diamond Emily" "Thanks its my grandfather" "Oh wow your grandfathers. It must be very special." "No not my grandfathers. My grandfather. He was made into a diamond when he died."

I love the space exploration shat. Stupid how governments and people like Australia think its a waste of resources.
Sadly, I have to wait 3 years.
