| Fist you distribute...
48/2(9+3) ------> 48/(18+6) ------> 48/24 = 2
or think of it this way
(2(9+3)) is all under 48
so
48/2(12) = 48/24 = 2
By rules of Math etiquette you need to consider everything under the / as one. Tho I know Math teachers probably don't care that much to put forth such strict discipline. Therefor if you're not in complex math 2 or 288 will work (mostly because at that level it doesn't matter for anything important),

Then the answer to that is 12, then you add the 9 + 3= 12 and multiply the 24 and the 12 equaling the 288..... isn't that how you do it? that's what I remember from school.... but to be fair I was spending all my time passing notes to the cute boy next to me

I always do the brackets first because that's how I was taught. So it would be the way Scott did it.

Yes... I laughed at the term math etiquette too when my professors brought it up. But surprisingly when you're working with complex equations you actually have to consider the order in which you execute functions... and it's maddeningly tedious on most problems.

| You could just realize that everything after the / is on the bottom.
So that makes the top number twice as large as the bottom
I feel sorry for that bottom number, probably not going to make it was something that big on top.

| A pure division symbol may have made this a little different. But yes I also say 2. My way of doing is wasn't as smart as Scoots<3. PEMDAS tells to do parenthesis first on this, making it 48/2 (12) Then multiplication is next in order of operations, making it 48/24 Just divide and get 2. But I do see how some people who learned order of operation by BODMAS or BEDMAS can get 288. I never learned it that way though. | |

As long as the final equation always remains one plus one does not equal one plus two.

The End. If I ever said that to her there would be no multiplication... only masses of giggling at my nerd pride.
