The Never-Ending Thread

It's depressing to see how inactive it has been recently. I mean, everybody is pretty much primarily posting in the never ending thread now and there's not enough people here to make this place really booming. We need to find some way to bring more people here before this place just fades into nothingness...

I know for a fact that a lot of boards out there are thriving because of how many people are there. We just need to get back into the game and pull people here. However, where we obtain these people might matter, because we don't to end up pulling in douches like those at Selkath.

I understand that people are busy these days, but it doesn't seem like they're rarely at their computer anymore. I know most of you are still dicking around with your computer. I don't know how we …

Happy New Year OT! We may be dying... BUT WE'RE STILL HERE! We had an... interesting year last year. Vice Admin Burkman is taking a long earned vacation and Uly is stepping into his position. Well... I have everything I'm supposed to bring to basic. At least I think so... except flip flops. I need flip flops for the showers. They didn't have any at walmart...

Also, I need compression shorts. I don't know what compression shorts are... and I couldn't find those at walmart either. Supposedly you'll be able to buy them at basic, along with a few other things I didn't buy yet, like stamps to send letters n' such. Now that I think of it, I might be able to tell grimeth my address in basic for sending letters. He could tell the OT and m-m-maybe someone could write something sometime.

My mom wants me to spend more time around her... and probably expects me to be calling her when I get phone calls in basic... but honestly, I'd rather call the higgins home. And I don't even wanna stay with my mother when I get to come back for like 2 weeks after basic and tech school. I wanna come back here where grimeth lives.

You know, my mom says things like, "I might need to call you and get money for rent from you or your mother won't have a place to live."

I can't pay for my mom's rent for the next 20 years. I don't want to. It won't even just be the rent, eventually. All the bills. I can't send almost all my money to my mom every god damn month. Doesn't she see that? She's not going anywhere but down. She won't look for work other than these occasional flu shot jobs and stuff. Then getting unemployment for as long as she can after it.

She was making payments on that house and everything was fine, financially. But then she quit and decided she didn't want to work anymore. "Can't work anymore", she would say. "I'm broken" she said once. She's not exactly in great shape, but she's not disabled in any way, you know. She's not the only overweight middle-aged woman who works a job.

Now she's living in a fairly small apartment in Keyes, just south of modesto, which has a bad reputation for drugs n' stuff. And she can't make that last forever, either. Why do I have to be responsible for her well-being? I can't support her. I can't even support myself. That's why I went to try joining the air force in the first place. My brother has a longer, more varied job experience than I have and is much better at looking for a job than I am and even he is having trouble finding anything. What chance did I have? Not very good chances, I would say. The only reason I'm going to be able to support myself is because I joined the military. I'm not exactly going to be wealthy, either.

There will come a time when I have to tell my mother I can't send her money. Not because I don't have it, but because I don't want to give her all my extra money. I want to be able to save some money, you know? Not just get by with $50 in my checking account every month. But that's going to make her furious... and she's going to cut ties with me. I don't want to burn that bridge in case I need help in the future... but what help will she be able to give me as time goes on anyway? I don't know... but I'm afraid of that day. I don't even know if I'll be able to tell her no.

I'm sorry for going on a rant like that. Today is thursday... I leave for the hotel in sacramento on monday. Tuesday morning I'll be on that plane to san antonio, texas... 2 months in hell with a physical fitness test near the end that I'm afraid I'll never be able to pass...

I'm gonna tell you what I've been telling you every time you bring your mum up. Just don't bother with her. Yes, she's your mother and yes, you're expected to care for her. But that's only if she's not able to do so herself. She's obviously not willing to do anything for herself so why bother with her? I know it sounds cruel, but it is what it is.

Take care of yourself, she's got other children to try and mooch off of...

Uly, just do what YOU want to do. Not what your mother wants you to do. You have your own future to worry about, and I'm sure you don't want to spend the rest of your life taking care of your mother. It's going to be hard cutting ties with your own mother, but from what it sounds, she's done nothing but mooch off of you.

Well... today is the last day I can be around. Ben's mom is going to drive me to modesto today. Tomorrow I'm going to sacramento to stay at a hotel. Then I'll have to wake up at 4am... we leave for some airport at like 10:30am. They say people leaving from sacramento usually don't get to san antonio until 11pm. It's gonna be a long day... I'm gonna be sleepy and some guy is gonna start shouting at me as soon as I get off that bus at basic.
