'This' is, from what I can tell of the image, an apparent rip-off site that 'sells' SWTOR credits... And yes, I can't get the ads off (by blocking them) as forumotion apparently has some sort of policy on that... It's no biggie, it's just one strip below the buttons and logo... But back to the topic at hand- for an ad to have appeared, someone who visits this site often (i.e- one of us) must have visited that site (at least once)...

| So with that logic, somebody went to purina.com to order Chef Michael's Dog Food? Not sure if the way Ban is explaining why ads appear is correct. | |

Some ads are just coincidental, random sites or whatever that have bought themselves a place on forumotion's products (i.e- forums)... But I find the chances of a SWTOR gold-ripoff ad on a SWTOR oriented site more than mere coincidental...

IDK about FF or IE... but ads on Chrome aren't dependent on who visits a site (the site keeps no such record)... it's dependent on where a user visits on their own computer (their cache and temp files). Basically the more you visit a certain site or type of site the more relevant ads from sites like the ones you visit will pop up (Google's wonderful engineering).

And I keep my cache clean... And I've never visited a site that comes even close to that category (a gold-ripoff site)... And ads appearing on your version of the site (the one loaded in your browser) aren't just dependent on what you browse (or search for in Google) but also the Google-search history of others who visit... Even if this site doesn't keep a record, Google does... This shouldn't vary based on browser as, as you pointed out, it's Google's wonderful mechanics...

Let me make it simple... IT... IS'NT... DUE... TO... WHO... VISITS... THE... SITE... there is no storage for that except forumotion itself (not related to Google) and I have a record of that in the admin section (and it has nothing to do with ads). Google itself DOES NOT KEEP TRACK FOR ADS. Let me clarify what I'm saying... "Google" is a search engine... it sends out internet spider bots (what you see on the bottom of this site) that send info back to Google about new pages. It is NOT related to advertisement. Simply what a search pulls up. "Chrome" (the browser) uses a function that keeps track of what sites you've visited and on certain (there are a shit ton now days ie: youtube, hulu, wiki's, gaming sites, forums, etc.) and will try to select ads more relevant to you. Now how other browsers do this IDK. The only reason that someone somehow got that to show up on YOUR browser is if someone else has YOUR browser also and your BROWSER has some sort of collective share/ad system. Which I don't find likely considering that's kinda a big breach of privacy, unless you signed some sort of agreement saying they could do so.

But I find the chances of a SWTOR gold-ripoff ad on a SWTOR oriented site more than mere coincidental... Advertisements (both for websites and for products) on the internet, are determined by your browsing history. Sellers/Owners then (as crazy as it sounds) have your search history and ads are chosen from that.

Scott over explains things... but Ban has a point... it's sometimes it's random (well they're all random but you get my point). Who knows how a TOR rip off ad even got issued on the web... that's a better question as to how it was on this site.
