Game of Thrones *no spoilers* EmptyThu Apr 02, 2015 11:06 pm by Burkman
It's depressing to see how inactive it has been recently. I mean, everybody is pretty much primarily posting in the never ending thread now and there's not enough people here to make this place really booming. We need to find some way to bring more people here before this place just fades into nothingness...

I know for a fact that a lot of boards out there are thriving because of how many people are there. We just need to get back into the game and pull people here. However, where we obtain these people might matter, because we don't to end up pulling in douches like those at Selkath.

I understand that people are busy these days, but it doesn't seem like they're rarely at their computer anymore. I know most of you are still dicking around with your computer. I don't know how we …

Happy New Year OT! We may be dying... BUT WE'RE STILL HERE! We had an... interesting year last year. Vice Admin Burkman is taking a long earned vacation and Uly is stepping into his position. Well... I'd have more to say but I've got other things to do atm... and oh yeah... to quote Callin... "GET A MIC YA BUM!"

I watched the first episode. Jacked it to dude banging his sister. Wasn't easy, as it wasn't very pornographic, but I managed. I'll maybe watch the others sometime...

What I think of the Blackwater?

1. No "Three Bitches" -The big ass trebuchets Tyrion had the people build and used to launch the green fire, there was no drifting boat bomb.
2. No Tyrion's Chain -The huge ass chain Tyrion had the blacksmiths build and placed across the bay, Bron and a few of his sellswords lifted it up from the bottom of the bay to bottleneck Stannis's fleet once they were in the bay (the fire came afterwards).
3. No bridge of drifting ships- the destroyed ships drifted to the chain and got stopped, creating a fire-y bridge which Stannis's main army used (they were waiting across the bay).
4. Downplayed Halfman- Tyrion commanded a cavalry sortie out the Mud Gate, Stannis never got to ram it (nor did he get to the actual walls himself). The sortie massacred most of Stannis's vanguard and reached the bridge of ships.
4.1 Tyron's nose got chopped off and he fell in the water, to be saved by Podrik. Not just a ghastly scar across the face (though there was that as well). This will play a good part of his character across the rest of the book.
5. Tywin's army arrived on the other side of the Blackwater, where the Kingswood is, to crush Stanni's remaining force. There were rumors of Renly's ghost appearing in the battle.

In all, while massive for a TV show, The Battle of Blackwater Bay was really downplayed by HBO... Maybe they didn't have the means for recreating the entire thing as written in the book, I don't are. I'm not really holding it against them... The show has really lost most of its' rep with me... Ever since they decided that the House of the Undying steal Dany's dragons...

The best that came out that episode was the Rains of Castamere by The National...

There's... Props for that... CGI and other shit as well...

But I do concur, I like Peter Dinklage and can't really imagine him without a nose...
Tyrion and Dany are the only reason I keep reading the books... Especially after that last fuck up with Jon...

Ok you do realize the show already costs 5 million dollars an episode and HBO decided to give a 15% budget increase *just* so we could see the battle? The entire episode was originally supposed to take place inside Cercie's and Sansa's room. The episodes are also only an hour long and can not accommodate any more action as it would take up too much screen time. For a TV battle this wasn't good? This is by far the best battle scene made for a television show ever. Seriously, find a better one. Fans and critics of television agree that this was best. Your expectations were far too high and unrealistic. Even if it wasn't the best, it was incredible. How was this episode downplayed? For the only time ever they focused on one story arc, on HBO GO they have a banner over the picture saying "Blackwater Battle". They haven't done this for any other episode.

As for the story deviations, the author himself has said that the show pretty much mirror's his books. If the show lost rep because of one deviation then you are far too rigid of a person. The author has even told the show's writers how the books end so they can finish the show in case something happens to him. If that isn't an endorsement, I don't know what is. The battle scene was incredible, the show is incredible.

Furthermore, George Martin WROTE THE EPISODE! So you wanna take up any changes for the episode, talk to the author of the book you

The show is epic. I love George and his way of writing. His books, for the most part, are pretty much the best fantasy I've ever read (and I've read 'em all)...
However, his tendency to... Do off with protagonists on the flick of a wrist is kinda unnerving, that's all I meant...

That's not true, you mentioned nothing of the sort in your posts. Also, you said that it wasn't what you expected, you said it was downplayed. Don't change your words.

Nothing about killing off major characters here. Nor did you say it was good. All complaints.

Read the red. And yes, I might have said it should have been more, but that was only because of the impression the battle in the book left me with (That's pretty much my opinion about most of the show compared to the books)... Compared, the one depicted in the show was... Minute... Wanting... But! BUT! It was good. Far better than any TV show 'massive battle' I've ever seen. As I said- I'll give it that any day.

As not everybody here knows what happens in the last several books, I'm kinda obligated to not disclose any information on dead protagonists...

Just fucking stop it. I like the show, it a good show. Far better than anything else by HBO before it (excluding maybe the Pacific). I prefer the books however. But right now, I'm more confused and a little pissed at George than at HBO...
