The inactivity of this forum. | Thu Apr 02, 2015 11:06 pm by Burkman | It's depressing to see how inactive it has been recently. I mean, everybody is pretty much primarily posting in the never ending thread now and there's not enough people here to make this place really booming. We need to find some way to bring more people here before this place just fades into nothingness...
I know for a fact that a lot of boards out there are thriving because of how many people are there. We just need to get back into the game and pull people here. However, where we obtain these people might matter, because we don't to end up pulling in douches like those at Selkath.
I understand that people are busy these days, but it doesn't seem like they're rarely at their computer anymore. I know most of you are still dicking around with your computer. I don't know how we …

Vice Admin Burkman is taking a long earned vacation and Uly is stepping into his position. Well... I'd have more to say but I've got other things to do atm... and oh yeah... to quote Callin... | Yes.
The falling of the tree would generate SOMETHING through sound waves and vibrations. Everything that vibrates the air or ground creates the potential for sound, no matter what able being is there to perceive it in the first place.

Let us not forget that they are only sound waves, not sound. The sound is made by the sound waves hitting your ear drum, which would not be present unless someone was there. Very good theory however, kind sir.

Very good theory however, kind sir. Not true... the definition of sound can also be included as sound waves. Sound = waves. It's debatable because the definition varies from dictionary to dictionary. For example: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/soundA and B refer to sound as the waves or transmittance of waves themselves. While C refers to the act of hearing the vibrations themselves. So by definition of A and B... a person doesn't need to be there. However definition C would indicate a person required.

| It's like the old riddle "If a woman screams in the Forrest and no one is around to hear it, is she using a gas or firewood stove to do the cooking?" | |

Very good theory however, kind sir. Actually your logic is flawed. As humans have a hearing range. For example: People can't hear a dog whistle, but it makes a sound because a dog can hear it, but that's not why you're wrong about the riddle. The reason that the tree clearly makes a sound is because even if no one is around, there is always an animal or at least something that would notice the sound close enough to hear it.
