The inactivity of this forum.

It's depressing to see how inactive it has been recently. I mean, everybody is pretty much primarily posting in the never ending thread now and there's not enough people here to make this place really booming. We need to find some way to bring more people here before this place just fades into nothingness...
I know for a fact that a lot of boards out there are thriving because of how many people are there. We just need to get back into the game and pull people here. However, where we obtain these people might matter, because we don't to end up pulling in douches like those at Selkath.
I understand that people are busy these days, but it doesn't seem like they're rarely at their computer anymore. I know most of you are still dicking around with your computer. I don't know how we …
Happy New Year OT! We may be dying... BUT WE'RE STILL HERE! We had an... interesting year last year. Vice Admin Burkman is taking a long earned vacation and Uly is stepping into his position. Well... I'd have more to say but I've got other things to do atm... and oh yeah... to quote Callin... "GET A MIC YA BUM!"

They should stop re-visiting old classics and make a more modern era TW game... Like a Total War: The Great War (before World War II, the First World War was known as the Great War)... Not the best wording, but you get my gist...
Still, don't mean I'm not intrigued about Rome II... Great trailer too, they didn't spare expenses, that's clear...

They would have to totally re-invent Total War for a WW1 setting. I doubt they will ever do that.

Well, they kinda did it for Empire TW with the townships, the multiple maps and stuff...

Well... The First World War still saw the use of cavalry and cannon-based artillery... Tanks came in at the very end and were relatively... simplistic, mostly used for getting over trenches... Tractors with threads instead of wheels and a couple of machine guns... Airplanes had just been invented so they weren't really that much of an impact (WWII was the one where planes were actually the winning factor)... They could be used as a special city/township-based unit that can bomb/harass an enemy army/town before an attack... They could make the trench-warfare and attrition-based combat work by substituting forts with entrenched encampments that stretch an entire border of a territory (like the German Forgot-The-Actual-Name Line)... Supply lines could also be implemented using the road and railway system... WWI also didn't see much use of machine guns other than in stationary emplacements... Regular infantry troops still used single-action rifles so at that end it won't be much different than what it is now with Shogun 2...
For battles, troops can be made to dig their own trenches, like they could erect protective walls and stuff in Empire and Shogun 2... Or they could be as a map feature...
It's not really that much to get your head around...

The combat isn't regimental combat anymore, it is much more fluid.
CA couldn't make an AI that could handle it.

No... Not really... Trench warfare wasn't that dynamic... Sure, they weren't lobbing musket balls at each other from two ends of a field, but it was stagnant as fuck... The only dynamic part was the 'Over The Top' moments which didn't last long by themselves... They could make it squad-based like other RTS titles where each regiment is split into smaller squads... That would require more micro-ing but considering most of the war was sitting around trenches...
