Venue first or invite guests firsts?

It's depressing to see how inactive it has been recently. I mean, everybody is pretty much primarily posting in the never ending thread now and there's not enough people here to make this place really booming. We need to find some way to bring more people here before this place just fades into nothingness...

I know for a fact that a lot of boards out there are thriving because of how many people are there. We just need to get back into the game and pull people here. However, where we obtain these people might matter, because we don't to end up pulling in douches like those at Selkath.

Like the thread title says, what should I do first. Should I find the venue and then send out my invites, or send out my invites, know who's coming and then find my venue.

What do you guys think. It needs to be well organized, I am afterall turning 30. Yay!

Venue first. Unless you have a barbieque at your house and a couple of slabs.

I voted venue first, but don't take my advice. I haven't had a real life friend 7 years and I can count on both hands the number of "parties" I've been to in my life.

venue first. otherwise you run the risk of not finding a venue with a suitable occupancy limit and price range, in time for your event.

People first. Then, when you know who's coming and who actually hates your guts, you can pick a place suited to that number of people...
Otherwise you run the risk of booking more places than the people that show up... Like my dad did for his 50th...

I suppose in calling venues it will help give me an idea of what those types of places are charging and stuff.

Then once I know and decided my budget and actual date, I invite my people, then see which place suits my needs better...or something.

If it's for YOUR birthday... pick the venue first... be selfish! It's the one day out of the year you're allowed to be. Everyone else will be forced to smile regardless if they like it or not or if it's to crowded.
